The North Coast 500 was recently named the most spectacular drive in the UK, and Scotland’s answer to “Route 66” is perhaps the most beautiful and unforgettable road trip in the world.
The route starts officially at Inverness castle and weaves it’s way through the wild terrain of the west coast to Applecross, then northwards towards the towns of Torridon and Ullapool. From there, you’ll venture to some of the most northerly coastal points in Scotland, passing by Caithness and John o’ Groats before heading south again through Dingwall and finally back to Inverness.
Stop and sample the finest Scottish seafood, climb one of the Munros or take a tour around one of the whisky distilleries close to the route. On returning to Inverness take a trip along the Moray Firth to watch the dolphins.
